ARUBA

destinations

These are the places I know best — the ones I've been to enough times to tell you which side of the island to stay on, which month to avoid, and which hotel is worth the splurge. It's not a complete list. If somewhere you're dreaming about isn't here, ask anyway; I've got a network of trusted partners on six continents and I'll tell you honestly whether I'm the right person to plan it.

THE CARIBBEAN

Warm water, short flights, and enough range that "the Caribbean" can mean almost anything you want it to. Aruba and Turks for reliable sun and easy logistics. St. Lucia and Grenada for green mountains and fewer crowds. St. Barths and Anguilla when the trip needs to be a little more than nice.

Best window is December through April, though shoulder season in May and November gets you the same beaches at a meaningfully better rate. I'll tell you which resorts earn their price tag and which ones photograph better than they live.

SOUTHEAST ASIA

Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, and Laos — the trip people put off for a decade and then wish they'd taken sooner. Limestone bays and rice terraces, temples at sunrise, night markets, and food that ruins you for the version back home.

It's also the region where planning matters most. Distances are longer than they look, domestic flights are unpredictable, and the difference between a good guide and a great one is the entire trip. Two weeks minimum; three is better. November through March for the driest weather.

MEXICO & BAJA

Close enough for a long weekend, good enough for two weeks. Los Cabos for the water and the golf, San Miguel de Allende for the architecture and the food, the Riviera Maya for families, and Oaxaca for travelers who'd rather eat than lie down.

This is where I get asked the all-inclusive question most, and the honest answer is: sometimes yes. It depends entirely on who's going and what you want out of the week. Tell me the group and I'll tell you which way to go.
